Do you know what is more disappointing than watching a bad movie?
Watching a bad movie that has been highly praised and recommended by people and the media!

So you get double the disappointment because you had such high expectations.
I am not going to lie sometimes I would get this momentary self-doubt… could it be me? Did I miss something?

But you can’t lie to yourself, and you can’t fake enthusiasm,

In my opinion, these are the top 20 most overrated movies.

These movies received excellent praise, but I didn’t think they deserved it. I might have liked some of these movies, but perhaps not to the same degree as some other people.

The Matrix Franchise (1999)

“The Matrix” is about a computer programmer named Neo who is contacted by a mysterious hacker named Morpheus. and drawn into a rebellion against intelligent machines that have enslaved humanity. Neo learns that the world he knows is a computer-generated illusion and that he is living in a pod, connected to the Matrix. He decides to become part of their mission to free humanity from the machines’ control.

Personal Opinion: The concept of the movie was ahead of its time for what it meant and stood for, and the fight scenes were really good. So the first movie was great but the second and third movies were awful.

Spirited Away (2001)

Is a Japanese Anime Movie about a ten-year-old girl named Chihiro. who ends up in a mysterious world of spirits after her family takes a wrong turn on their way to their new home. Her parents are transformed into pigs by a sorceress, and Chihiro has to discover a way to save her parents and return home.

Personal Opinion: At points can be hard to be Understood. Since it reflects Japanese culture. it simply won’t be understood by Western audiences. There is no character development at all, and the plot is missy and shallow.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (2004).

The film follows a man named (Joel) who learns that his ex-girlfriend, (Clementine), who had undergone a procedure to erase him from her mind. In response, Joel decides to undergo the same procedure to erase Clementine from his own memory.

Personal Opinion: When I watched the movie I hated it. Mostly because I couldn’t relate to any of the main characters. I did not feel for them or their relationship. I was just waiting for the movie to be over.

The Note Book (2004).

“The Notebook” is a love story, set in the 1940s. where Noah and Allie fall in love as teenagers but are separated when Noah goes to serve in the War and that was supposed to be the end of their love story. Years later, Allie is engaged to another man, and that’s when Noah finds his way back into her life.

Personal Opinion: The movie is about manipulation, toxic relationships and cheating. Noah threatens ally to go on a date with him, they have nothing in common and they both cheat on other people.

“Pan’s Labyrinth” is a movie directed by Guillermo del Toro. and it is about a young girl who discovers a mysterious labyrinth and a faun who tells her she’s a lost princess. And she has to complete three tasks to prove her identity while navigating the war-torn country.

Personal Opinion: It felt overwhelming and complicated, so many things happening at the same time, so It was a little bit depressing and disturbing, you can think of it as a darker version of (Alice in Wonder Land).

Twilight (2008).

The movie is about Bella who falls in love with a vampire named Edward. but their relationship is complicated by the dangers of the supernatural world they live in.

Personal Opinion: The movie suffered from a lack of a good script and bad acting, the relationship was creepy and awkward. but the 15 years old me fell for the vampire drama.

The movie is about a ballerina named Nina who struggles to embody the dual nature of the Swan Queen in a production of Swan Lake. She became increasingly obsessed with perfection to the point where it affected her mental health and well begin.

Personal Opinion: I hated every minute of this painful, never-ending, ballet film. which also highlighted gossip, hate, a split personality, scheming, sexual innuendos, and a ridiculous ending.

Inception (2010).

The film follows a skilled thief named Cobb, who is offered a chance to regain his old life in exchange for completing a seemingly impossible task. the task is implanting an idea into someone’s mind through a process called “inception.” As Cobb and his team dig deeper into the mind of their target. they find themselves facing unexpected challenges and dangerous consequences.

Personal Opinion: It’s an empty shell of a movie. There is no plot or climax, you couldn’t care less about any of the characters. and we did not understand the motive of any of them.

Silver Linings Playbook (2012).

Silver Linings Playbook is a romantic comedy-drama about a man recently released from a mental institution who meets a young widow and decided to enter a dance competition with her. The characters navigate their personal struggles and relationships, finding hope and redemption.

Personal Opinion: This movie is a typical rom-com with mental illness twists thrown in. Boy meets girl, boy, and girl act like they’re just friends for a time, then fall in love. Why all the hype?

The movie is about two families whose daughters go missing on Thanksgiving. As the police investigation fails, one of the fathers takes matters into his own hands. The movie explores themes of justice, revenge, and the lengths people will go to protect their loved ones.

Personal Opinion: Clumsy storytelling that ultimately ruins a potentially good movie.

The Wolf of Wall Street (2013).

The movie tells the life of Jordan Belfort, a stockbroker who rises to fame in the 1990s by swindling his clients out of millions. The movie explores themes of greed, corruption, and the consequences of living a life without morals.

Personal Opinion: The storyline is awful. The characters are awful. This is the boring life story of a crook from wall street. and it is 3 hours long!!!

The Maze Runner (2014).

The Maze Runner is a sci-fi action film about a group of teenage boys trapped in a deadly maze known as the Glade. They must solve the maze and find a way out while uncovering the truth behind their imprisonment.

“Split” is about three girls who are kidnapped by a man with 23 distinct personalities. each with its own unique characteristics. The film explores the effects of trauma and abuse on the human mind.

Personal Opinion: The storyline is awful. The ending is awful. It is so overrating

Arrival is about a linguistics professor who helps communicate with aliens that have landed on Earth in mysterious ships. As she delves deeper into their language, she begins to experience strange visions that could determine humanity’s fate.

Personal Opinion: This movie left me clueless and bored to death. So many things in the movie make ZERO sense.

Personal Opinion: I don’t even think I understand what went on throughout the course of the film.

“The Shape of Water” is a fantasy drama film directed by Guillermo del Toro. about a mute janitor who discovers and falls in love with a mysterious, scaled creature that is being held captive at a government lab. She teams up with her friends to free the creature and protect him from harm.

Personal Opinion: Boring, slow & ridiculous, and very weird.

The Greatest Showman (2017).

“The Greatest Showman” is a musical film about P.T. Barnum’s rise to fame as a circus entrepreneur. It features a diverse cast of performers and explores personal and professional challenges.

Personal Opinion: it is actually good, for me, I was annoyed by how overrated it was.

The movie follows a group of wealthy individuals who gather for an exclusive culinary experience at a remote island resort. However, as the meal progresses, it becomes clear that there is more to the event than just gourmet food.

Personal Opinion: I had high expectations for this film because of all the great reviews it had received. The pace of the movie was good, but it was very clear from the beginning where the story was heading and who would survive in the end. It’s a shame that so many excellent actors were largely ineffective in this movie.

Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022).

“Everything Everywhere All at Once” is a film about a quantum physicist who discovers a way to access alternate dimensions. and meets different versions of herself in different realities and must stop the big evil. The film has been praised for its storytelling, visuals, and exploration of complex themes.

Personal Opinion: Really stupid concept. Absolutely annoying frenetic style. The acting was way over the top. I only enjoyed the action and fight sequences.

The Whale (2022).

The Whale (2022)

The film is about a man named Charlie, who weighs close to 600 pounds and is confined to his apartment. Despite his physical limitations. before he dies Charlie tries to connect with his daughter and reflects on his past and the choices that led him to his current situation.

Personal Opinion: Pointless! There is nothing of value in this movie. It is a waste of time. Every character is lacking in some way.
